Go With Amadou

Roots
Our adventure begins in Banjul with a relaxing two-hour boat trip across the river. A refreshing drink is served on board as we take in the peaceful surroundings.
We go ashore at Juffureh, home to the iconic “Flag of Freedom” and the village of Kunta Kinteh, whose story is powerfully told in the book ROOTS. The “Flag of Freedom” marks the place where the fight against slavery is commemorated.
At the museum, we explore the history of the region step by step. As we continue our journey to St. James Island, we may be lucky enough to spot dolphins playing in the river.
On the island, we visit the haunting ruins of the old fort and learn more about the deep and moving history of the transatlantic slave trade.
